Etta and I drove up to the Porcupine Mountains, on the coast of Lake Superior, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The folks get a little more redneck, more of a redstate feeling, in the UP. When we arrived at the State Park visitors center, I admitted to feeling anxiety about the UP wilderness: it scared me last summer on our tubing trip down the river that took six hours.
We visited the Lake in the Clouds, an 800ft hike from the parking lot. It was beautiful. That’s pretty much my limit in nature.
