Raven and I stopped by Chef Rick’s house on Memorial Day (he and Deann were out of town, having travelled to Mexico City to set up an apartment for the managers and chefs to visit). The fact that they were out of town made me a little nervous, but not as nervous as meeting Raven’s mom and aunts!
We headed up to the Northside after a quick hotdog and hamburger, stopping only at Tony’s finer foods for chicken salad. I was put to work in the backyard, grilling meat, which disappointed next door neighbor Mary who wanted to take the measure of me.
Raven’s mom and aunts’ apartment is in a beautiful old school building with lots of beautiful architectural touches. For example, the stonework around the front door was all done by hand in an asymmetric pattern. The doors themselves are heavy wood and curved at the top. Jada’s and Mary’s kitchens open by backdoor onto a shared deck overlooking the backyard.
Jada and I talked Game of Thrones theories, and later Denise was telling me about what it was like when she disrupted the Trump rally. I love that Raven Beauty so it was important to me to connect with her family.
