Damn some best times of my life have been these past years getting to play Quake 2 with you guys in whatever mod. Getting to hang with waggz, rusty, target, bluefish, the cleaner, cartman and others IRL and talking to greenz, yoda, big daddy, bones, fors and so many more people on Ventrilo…Meeting and talking to you guys i have picked up on patterns in our behavior. We are all amazingly alike in so many ways, maybe that helps explain a lot of the love / hate bickering, fractious tensions and plain smack talk.
One thing we have all had in common is that we still play an 18 year old game. i don’t think any one of us is eloquent or even self aware enough to say exactly what all it is why we still play. There is a locked door to some joy in our hearts and Quake 2 is the only key for us.
WORM and yowza have been the guardians of Lfire CTF for more than a decade, by far the longest standard bearers for Quake 2 CTF, and the best friends the game has ever had. Their sunset does not and will not be the end of Quake 2 CTF, not on my watch. We need to be answering an Urgent question: how do we keep AcmeCTF alive as THE last resort after WORM and yowza ride off into the sunset in December?
I’m one of those people who are going to always stay loyal to quake 2. You all may think this is dead and yeah it’s a low water mark. The flip side is that we have never had a greater opportunity for growth. I don’t know i believe that we have as much freedom to choose our path forward as much as we like to think. I’m going to stay positive and do my best to lay the ground for this to be better than ever. Quake 2 chose me
