ULC Logbook, Thursday, October 13th, 2022:
We started with 52 covers (the total does not include the parties in the Ballroom or the Sherman Room). One party cancelled, for a total loss of 2 covers. It was raining throughout dinner service, which turned into a downpour at several points. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 1 at 5PM (drinks only, at the bar); 1 at 5:50PM (solo diner); 1 at 7:15PM (apps and drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 7:30PM; 2 at 8PM; 3 at 9:15PM (entrees only). We added approximately 30 covers by way of same-day reservations, including a party of 5, and a party of 7, bringing to mind the expression, “When it rains, it pours.” We finished with 84 guests (the total does not include the parties in the Ballroom or the Sherman Room).
For BA’s, we were joined by: Dr. R. F., negroni enthusiast (solo at bar); Daniel R. and father, ULC is his father’s favorite restaurant (party of 2, tbl. 4); Elizabeth D. (party of 5, tbl. 31); Daryl G. (solo, tbl. 14); L. G., doctors from Yale Medicine (party of 7, tbl. 30); Dr. P. O’C., Yale Medicine (party of 4, tbl. 17); Tim O’C., 10th anniversary (party of 2, tbl. 16, the “O’C. corner”); Dr. S. L., Yale philosophy (party of 2, tbl. 9); Shep and Jennifer S. (party of 2, tbl. 1); Karily C. (party of 7, tbl. 5); Chef Emily M., owner of Tavern on State, in New Haven: named, “Best Chef,” by the CT Restaurant Association in 2021 (party of 2, tbl. 4).
In the Sherman Room, we were joined by 16 guests from the Whitney Humanities Center for the, “Incarceration and Imagination at Yale,” dinner.
In the Ballroom, we were joined by 45 guests from the Lewis Walpole Library, which included BA’s Justin Z. and John G.
John E. L. (party of 4, tbl. 3, served by N.) has an annual tradition of dining at ULC on their autumnal drives from Nantucket through New Haven. The L.’s commented: “Everything was excellent!” and made another reservation to join us with 6 guests on Friday, November 11th. Bravo to N., RT, CF, Chef G., Chef J. Chef T., and the entire team!
After their dinners were over, we received many positive comments from guests coming from the Sherman Room and Ballroom, with one memorable comment being, “The team did a great job upstairs.” Bravo to the banquet teams!
