Cielito Lindo

My friend ray sometimes at work will sing, “ay yi yi, I love velveeta.” I had a dream I was helping set up for ray and his partner Kevin’s wedding. When I woke up I searched for the origin of that jingle-

What I found is that velveeta has been around for almost one hundred years, and there is mild Mexican velveeta, and velveeta melts smoothly with rotel to make a cheesy dip, but no evidence that velveeta has used that “ay yi yi.” Instead, it’s origin is an 1882 ranchero song called cielito Lindo by quirino mendoza cortes. And it was adopted by frito lay for the racist marketing of corn chips.
