Dubuque is not so different from Galena: an historic Northern Mississippi River town built on a landscape of ancient rolling hills untouched by the miles high ice sheets that flattened the prairies of much of the Midwest and most of the rest of Iowa. Wooden Victorians lurk like big fish in these hills.
Downtown is old bricks and a port to the river. In the towns aquarium, catfish as big as Volkswagons paddle contentedly in captivity.
