We started with 89 covers, which included six large party reservations. One same-day reservation for 5 guests no-showed: we had several walk-in parties, including two additional large parties, join us. We finished with 105 covers.
We had four orders for takeout: two orders taken over the phone, and two orders placed on the web.
For BA’s, we were joined by: K. and A., tasting for their March 26th wedding (party of 2, tbl. 1, served by S.); Mary-Michelle H. celebrating 80th birthday (party of 3, tbl. 16); Mr. Z. and Mr. G. (party of 2, tbl. 21); Xavier R., husband of Nicole R. who will be having the Cheine-Blue wine dinner at ULC on March 23, 2022 (solo, tbl. 2); Julia M., Fellowship and Exchange Program at Yale (party of 11, tbl. 31+); John F. (party of 2, tbl. 6).
Mr. Z. and Mr. G. were over the moon with their ULC experience tonight: Mr. G. raved about his bouillabaisse and Mr. Z. said his entree, “Short Ribs Provençale Daube,” was the single most delicious offering he has tasted in 20+ years dining at ULC. Mr. Z. urged this dish be considered for addition to the dinner menu. They were also very happy with the round marble substituted in place of the square for their favorite table: they agreed it was better feng shui, and they joked that we were lucky JM wasn’t here because he may have vetoed the change. Mr. G. and Mr. Z. will be joining us, same time, same table, again next Friday.
Forecast is for a sunny Saturday with a high of 35F.

We did not have any parties reserve in advance for Chef’s tasting menu: however, the tasting menu was ordered by two parties of 2.

However, we added several same-day reservations to compensate. The parties for Richard Y. (party of 2, tbl. 6) and Matthew B. (party of 2, tbl. 26) dined inside with us for the first time since March 2020. We finished with 38 covers.

It was Mrs. S.’s birthday (party of 2, tbl. 3, served by R. I.): Mrs. S. specifically visited the front desk to comment on how delicious everything was this evening. The table of 2 walk-in guests at neighboring tbl. 4 engaged the S.’s in conversation about visits they each had made to Greece, and Dr. S. got everybody laughing with a story about when the S.’s were confronted / chased by large goats on the Greek island of Santorini. The S.’s will join us for dinner again on Wednesday, March 30th, to celebrate Dr. S.’s birthday.
There six Chef’s tasting menus served: A. served a party of 2 who had reserved for the tasting menu; R. I. served a party of 4 who had not reserved for the experience: bravo R. I.!

R. I. trained P.
Table 14 asked R. I. for the check: when a card was put down, R. I. directed P. to run the payment. G. was supervising, and saw that the credit card noted tax exemption, a situation P. was not yet trained for. G. removed the tax, and requested R. I. be more careful during P.’s training, and R. I. replied that he felt insulted by the way he was spoken to.
Four tables of two reserved for Chef’s tasting menu: one party of two ended up only splitting a salad, seemingly due to a lovers’ quarrel unrelated to the restaurant. An additional party of 2 was sold the tasting menu at the table — 8 guests served all day.
Forecast for Friday: high of 35F and sunny during the day, with clear skies at night.
