ULC Logbook, Wednesday, July 13th, 2022:
We started with 67 covers (43 inside, 24 outside). Four parties of two cancelled, for a total of 8 covers. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 3 at 5:30PM (drinks and appetizers only); 2 at 5:50PM; 1 at 5:55PM; 6 at 7:50PM (drinks and desserts only). We finished with 67 guests (41 inside, 26 outside).
For BA’s, we were joined by: Madame D. (party of 2, tbl. 2); V. C., of Yale athletics (party of 3, tbl. 37); Elizabeth and Ian J., ULC wedding tasting (party of 4, tbl. 16); George C. (party of 2, tbl. 26); Michael B. (solo, tbl. 80); Christina F., 20th anniversary, with floral arrangement for table (party of 2, tbl. 63); Michael P., with parents from the UK (party of 3, tbl. 3); Jennifer K., family of D., from the ULC kitchen team (party of 3, tbl. 11); Jennifer and Shep S. (party of 2, tbl. 78); Alexa Z. (party of 4, tbl. 9); P. M.’s family (party of 6, tbl. 62, drinks and dessert only) with some family members visiting the U. S. from Ecuador.
Just after the doors opened, a walk-in party of three joined us for drinks and appetizers. This was BA Dr. M. W., with two friends who are visiting New Haven. Dr. W., who does not drink (he had citronade) brought his out-of-town guests to ULC because of our reputation for awesome cocktails, delicious cuisine, and the amazing view of Chapel Street from table 4. I also shared my local history project with them. Dr. W. and his guests left very happy with their overall experience. On the bottom of their check, however, Dr. W. scrawled in cursive a note which we have to assume was not in any way intended for their server, R. I. The note read: “Fonda, sorry for shooting you when you were an innocent, little waif. Please forgive me. M. W.”
M. called out; M. was called in to cover for her.
T. bartended instead of N.
On Tuesday night, for the first time, J. trained as a busser on the floor, assisted by S. and M. Some gentle notes about J.’s first time: when setting up the floor on Wednesday, P. G. noticed that several tablecloths were upside-down, and some tables’ napkins were placed backwards (with the fold facing to the left, instead of the right).
Thursday: partly cloudy; high of 89F; 20% chance of precipitation. Friday: mostly sunny; high of 86F; zero % chance of precipitation. Saturday: partly cloudy; high of 85F; 10 % chance of precipitation.
