ULC Logbook, Thursday, March 24th, 2022:
We started with 27 covers. On the earlier side, we were joined by a party of 2 regulars at the bar, and a party of 2 walk-in’s at a table in the Clubroom. On the later side, we received same-day reservations for a solo diner, and for a party of 2. We finished with 35 covers.
There were 2 takeout orders, both from the web: one placed a day in advance for pick-up at 5:30PM, and for BA Mr. B. at 7:30PM. Chef G. included complimentary Gran Marnier truffles for Mr. B. to thank him for ordering so often.
For BA’s, we were joined by: David D. (party of 3, tbl. 17); Yale School of Medicine’s Dr. J. K. (party of 3, tbl. 3); Yale School of Medicine’s Dr. I. R. (party of 3, tbl. 16); Yale Professor of Finance J. T. (party of 3, tbl. 13); Jared O., married at ULC in 2018 (party of 2, tbl. ); T.’s better half, Claire B. (solo at bar).
The bar couple who join us regularly on Thursdays is Don and Liz B.
Noah B. and date (party of 2, tbl. 7, served by R.) commented that their dinner had been, “perfect for spring,” and the imminent blossoming of New Haven — walking to the ULC tonight, this academic couple had observed the first buds of the season by Yale’s School of Medicine.
We served 4 of Chef’s tasting menus (two parties of 2); both reservations were made on OpenTable with the guest selecting for the tasting menu.
Friday’s forecast is partly sunny, high of 62F.
ULC Logbook, Friday, March 25th, 2022:
We started with 110 covers. By 5:30PM we had been joined by walk-in parties of 5, 2, and 1. One party of 5 cancelled because they thought they had a Saturday reservation. The heightened demand for walk-in tables continued throughout service, and we also added several same-day reservations for the later side. We finished with 129 guests.
There was one order for takeout, placed by phone.
For BA’s, we were joined by: David G. (party of 4, tbl. 3); Haley S., (party of 2, tbl. 15) a couple celebrating the 1-year pre-anniversary of their upcoming ULC wedding, to be held March 25, 2023; J. P. H. (party of 3, tbl. 12); the H.’s (party of 2, tbl. 14); Roy and Ruth F. (party of 2, tbl. 10); Barry V. (party of 2, tbl. 2); Emily T. (party of 2, tbl. 1); Mary B. (party of 2, tbl. 6).
A. and Andrew’s rehearsal dinner was in the Ballroom (not included in total covers).
Tom K. and his wife (party of 2, tbl. 7) joined us all the way from Oklahoma because Mrs. K. will be running the full 26.2 mile Savin Rock Marathon in West Haven on Saturday morning. The K.’s enjoyed their dinner so much that they wanted to join us again tomorrow for after the race, making it two ULC dinners in a row. However, as we were not able to accommodate them due to the wedding, we wrote down a list of recommendations based on their stated preferences and I verbally recommended that if Mrs. K. feels the craving for carbs upon completion, that New Haven is home of the best pizza in the entire country.
A. trained in the busser station.
Forecast for Saturday is scattered showers, high of 52F.
