“Protect Your Bartender” — May 10 – 12, 2022

ULC Logbook, Tuesday, May 10th, 2022:

We started with 58 covers. The number continued to move upward even after we’d had N. call out; we were joined by same-day reservations mostly between 6:30PM and 7:15PM, and one for the 8PM hour. The three servers (R., R. I., and P. M.) had great teamwork. We finished with 65 guests (the total does not include 40 guests from the Ballroom).

For BA’s, we were joined by: Tilda R. (party of 2, tbl. 6); Yale Architecture, dinner in honor of B. S. (party of 6, tbl. 5); J. R., Yale Investments (party of 2, tbl. 22); J. W., Yale Law (party of 5, tbl. 26); Darryl G. (party of 2, tbl. 18).

In the Ballroom, we were joined by approx. 40 guests from the CTLA Board of Governors.

K. C. and husband (party of 2, tbl. 15, served by P. M.) celebrated their anniversary with us tonight. When I was holding the door for them on their way out, the gentleman commented, “Our waiter was really very good,” and the lady agreed “He was wonderful.” Bravo P. M.!

Both Wednesday and Thursday have the same (not too bad!) forecast: partly cloudy, high of 71F.

ULC Logbook, Wednesday, May 11th, 2022:

We started with 59 covers, on a beautiful weather Wednesday. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 5:50PM; 2 at 6PM; 2 at 6:15PM; solo diner from the Omni Hotel at 8:50PM. We finished with 62 guests.

We had one order for takeout, taken over the phone, for BA Berri N.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Southern CT State University Dean B. K., celebrating his birthday with his husband Shaun S. (party of 2, tbl. 11); L. C., Yale Dept. of Economics (party of 6, tbl. 30); G. V. / R. D., Yale School of Management (party of 3, tbl. 1); Sergio T., with his father visiting from Brazil who arrived today (party of 2, tbl. 10); Pericles L. / Sheila H. (party of 8, tbl. 5); Yale English Department (party of 12, tbl. 18+).

The guest who G. and Chef G. graciously accommodated as a late-joiner, who walked over from the Omni Hotel on this beautiful evening, commented in between courses: “The service here is top notch!”

Thursday: partly cloudy, high of 68F, another beautiful day. Friday: scattered showers, high of 67F.

ULC Logbook, Thursday, May 12th, 2022:

We started with 128 covers. Perhaps the second day in a row of beautiful weather had an effect on some guests reorienting their plans towards the sunshine. We had several parties drop in number: in at least two instances this was due to someone testing positive for Covid. In the second half of the night, we had at least two cancellations. We finished with 116 guests (the total includes 15 guests from the Sherman Room.)

We had two orders for takeout, both taken over the phone; one was for BA Berri N.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Father M. S. (party of 2, tbl. 28); Salima A. (party of 2, tbl. 10); Tony R. (party of 6, tbl. 16); Sherwin A. (party of 2, tbl. 3); The W.’s (party of 2, tbl. 2); Sam M. (party of 7, tbl. 30); State Senator Martin L. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Yale Univ. Art Gallery Director S. W. (party of 3, tbl. 170; Connor B. (party of 6, tbl. 22+); Liza and Mossimo, bail-bonds-persons (party of 2, tbl. 2); Connor L. (party of 2, tbl. 35); Mr. Michael B. (party of 3, tbl. 29).

In the Sherman Room, we were joined by approx. 15 guests from Medforce for the Oyster Point meeting.

All of the guests with Tony R. (party of 6, tbl. 16, served by S.) gave compliments to the Chef on their way out. One of the ladies commented: “Wonderful as ever.” However, the best comment was not spoken words that I heard directly but rather the actions taken by Bing C. and two of the guests, who split off from the rest of the party specifically in order to say goodnight to T. at the bar, who apparently had made a great impression on them. Bravo to T., S., Chef and team!

Friday: cloudy; high of 69F; 20 percent chance of precipitation for early in the day. Saturday: cloudy; high of 70F; 20 percent chance of precipitation for later in the evening.
