ULC Logbook, Saturday, July 23rd, 2022:
We started with 101 covers (68 inside, 33 outside — the total does not include the wedding party in the Ballroom). Four parties cancelled, for a total loss of 12 covers. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 1 at 6:05PM (patio); 2 at 6:30PM; 3 at 7:25PM (drinks and appetizers, at bar); 3 at 7:40PM (drinks only, in the Clubroom); 1 at 8:55PM. We finished with 112 guests (82 inside, 30 outside — the total does not include the wedding party in the Ballroom.)
We had one order for takeout, escargots-to-go for Mr. D., placed in person (kudos to Chef and kitchen team for making it happen!)
For BA’s, we were joined by: Father Mark S. (party of 2, tbl. 17); Aaditya V., just engaged (party of 2, tbl. 13); T. C., former Ansonia mayor (party of 2, tbl. 2); Kenneth G., celebrated birthday (party of 2, tbl. 6); Isabel C. (party of 7, tbl. 5); The K.’s and clients (party of 4, tbl. 3); Andy M. (party of 2, tbl. 16); Russell C. (party of 2, tbl. 9); Professor G. H. (solo, tbl. 7); Marc L. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Barbara F. (party of 4, tbl. 66+); Hollis V. (party of 7, tbl. 75+); Lauren P. (party of 2, tbl. 78); Vincent E. (party of 2, at the bar).
In the Ballroom, we were joined by approx. 60 guests for the wedding of Elizabeth J. and Ian G.
Mariko M. (party of 3, tbl. 12) and her dining companion Bill R. send their warmest regards to Jean-Michel Gammariello!
The K.’s (party of 4, tbl. 3, dining at a table for a change!) sent thanks to R. I. for his gracious hospitality and even more thanks to Chef G. for a fantastic dinner. My favorite guest interaction of the entire night came when I was refilling ice water at the K.’s table. Mr. K. asked if I was pouring from two carafes in order to keep both of my hands cold. Before I could answer, the K.’s gentleman guest said that he thought the temperature of the dining room was perfect; in fact, he had brought along a sweater because he was worried it may be too chilly in our dining room tonight. “This temperature is just perfect,” the gentleman guest commented, “This is the way summer is supposed to feel.” I said that our historic building is in harmony with the seasons, to which Mr. K. joked: “This place only gets cold in the winter!” Bravo R. I., Chef G., R., C., G., and everyone on the team for doing everything possible to keep us all cool through this heatwave (and a big thank you for my éventail featuring Benjamin Franklin — I’m a big fan!)
Sunday: partly cloudy, high of 92F. Monday: scattered thunderstorms; high of 86F — hopefully 86 heatwave!
