ULC Logbook, Saturday, September 10th, 2022:
We started at the pacing limit with 80 covers (57 inside, 23 outside). Four parties cancelled, for a total loss of 11 covers. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 5:10PM; 1 at 6:15PM (patio); 3 at 6:40PM (drinks and apps only, Clubroom); 1 at 6:50PM; 2 at 7:15PM (drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 7:20 (drinks only, at the bar, with a reserved party of 2 before their anniversary dinner); 2 at 7:45PM; 1 at 7:50PM; 1 at 8:20PM (for dinner at the bar). We finished with 97 guests (69 inside, 28 outside — the total does not include any of Saturday’s banquets).
We had two orders for takeout, both placed by web: one for Julia C.; one for Yale’s honorable professor, BA Mr. B.
For BA’s, we were joined by: The C.’s, with son Phaeton (party of 3, tbl. 62); John H. and wife Corinne F. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Matthew B., who lives in Boston and dines with his mother at the ULC every time he visits New Haven (party of 4, tbl. 77); Dr. L. and B. G. (party of 2, tbl. 63); Peter and Jane P. (party of 2, tbl. 24); Anya S. (party of 2, tbl. 6); Ralph R. (party of 2, tbl. 2); John and Mrs. S., both celebrating birthdays (party of 2, tbl. 64); Themis K. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Joan V., celebrating two birthdays (party of 3, tbl. 3); Krista R. (party of 2, tbl. 14); Tammy K., celebrating two anniversaries (party of 4, tbl. 62); Joseph S. (party of 2, tbl. 61); Charlie M. (party of 2, tbl. 27); Chef G.’s friend Thibault, visiting from France, whom I learned from R. halfway through his meal, is a 3-Michelin-star sommelier in France (solo, tbl. 24); Rocky and Juni, from Wethersfield, celebrating their anniversary (party of 2, tbl. 78).
For lunch in the Ballroom, we were joined by 40 guests for Olivia’s baby shower, hosted by E. W..
For dinner in the Ballroom, we were joined by 34 guests for K. and Bill P.’s birthday celebration dinner.
For dinner in the Sherman Room, we were joined by 18 guests for the wedding dinner of Tracy M. and Mark C.
A walk-in guest who dined solo at table 23, served by D., with a blissful look in her eyes, commented: “So nice tonight… it always is.” The guest then introduced herself as Tricia T., and recognizing her name I thanked her for joining us many times. Bravo D., Chef G., and team!
I witnessed Joan V. (party of 3, tbl. 3, served by D.) offer the following feedback directly to R.: “Everything was wonderful.” Bravo to D, RT, Chef G., and the whole team!
The entire wedding party, in particular the family of the bride, Tracy M., was in very high spirits after their experience tonight, giving appreciations to the kitchen and service team. Bravo Chef J., C., and the Saturday’s awesome banquets squad!
Matthew B. (party of 4, tbl. 77, served by A.) is an excellent regular who lives in Boston, MA. I appreciate how Mr. B. takes his elderly mother to dine with us whenever he is visiting her in New Haven. Tonight, Mr. B. and his mother were also accompanied by his two sons, aged nine and eleven. When I was showing a party of 3 to their patio table, one of Mr. B.’s sons insisted on holding the side-door open for the guests and me. Bravo to Mr. B. for raising his sons to be gentlemen. Yet another example of our amazing guests at the ULC!
Sunday: cloudy; high of 81F; 19% chance of precipitation. Monday: PM showers; high of 78F; 34% chance of precipitation. Tuesday: scattered thunderstorms; high of 80F; 58% chance of precipitation. The bad news is that there may be more showers in the forecast; the good news is that they are probably not baby showers… have a great weekend everybody!
