ULC Logbook, Friday, September 2nd, 2022:
We started with 93 covers (62 inside, 31 outside — the total does not include the 100 guests from the Ballroom party.) Three parties cancelled, for a total loss of 8 covers. Between 6PM and 7PM, a group of vegans protested against the inhumane treatment of animals by making sidewalk art in front of the restaurant. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 7:10PM (drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 7:20PM (Clubroom.) We finished with 92 guests (61 inside, 31 outside — the total does not include the 100 guests from the Ballroom party.)
For BA’s, we were joined by: Diane A. (party of 4, tbl. 62); Matthew G. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Dr. Eric M. (party of 2, tbl. 61); Dr. M. R., celebrating anniversary, first time dining on ULC patio (party of 2, tbl. 78); the G.’s (party of 2, tbl. 63); the K.’s (party of 2, at the bar); Dr. Donald E. (party of 4, tbl. 77); Dave L. (party of 3, tbl. 31); Pamela M. / Chris H. (party of 2, tbl. 11); Robert N., photographer of ULC’s 25th anniversary (party of 8, tbl. 5); Rachel and Paul E., celebrating Rachel’s birthday (party of 2, tbl. 24/25); Brigitte G. (party of 4, tbl. 29); Salima R. (party of 2, tbl. 1).
In the Ballroom, we were joined by 100 guests for the rehearsal dinner of Alexandre and Sylvia V.
The G.’s (party of 2, tbl. 4, served by R. I.), who held their wedding at ULC in 2013, joined us to celebrate their anniversary tonight; it was their first return visit since before the pandemic. The G.’s seemed to have entered a state of bliss by the conclusion of their dining experience; they send thanks and appreciation to Chef T. for making a special Croque En Bouche for their dessert; an encore of the sweet course served at their ULC wedding. Bravo to Chef T., R. I., Chef G., and the entire team!
Beth A. (party of 4, tbl. 3, served by R. and A.) celebrated a birthday tonight. Thank you to R. for handling a gift from their friend, who originally requested sending the table a bottle of wine, but later settled on their first round of drinks, with the message: “Happy birthday paisan, from your favorite paisan.” When I held the door for the party’s departure, they were still very much engaged in 4-way conversation, and the topic was how much they had enjoyed their experience tonight, and how everything that they’d eaten had been so delicious. Bravo to R., A., Chefs G., T., and J, and the entire team!
A. trained on the floor with R., and was fully engaged in all aspects of service, taking orders, carafe wine service, handling payments, etc.
R. is on the lookout for an understated brass sign for the ladies’ washroom door, which communicates the discrete instruction, “Push to open.”
Saturday: partly cloudy; high of 81F; 10% chance of precipitation.
Congratulations to Guillaume and Brittney, who are getting married in New Orleans!
