ULC Logbook, Saturday, September 17th, 2022:

We started with 146 covers (113 inside, 33 outside). Four parties cancelled, for a total loss of 10 covers. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 6:25PM (patio); 2 at 7:45PM (drinks and apps, at the bar); 2 at 7:55PM (drinks and apps, at the bar); 2 at 8:05PM (drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 8:10PM (patio); 1 at 8:30PM; 1 at 9:15PM (desserts only). We finished with 165 guests (138 inside, 27 outside).

There was one order of takeout, placed by phone, for dessert only.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Michael M. (party of 2, tbl. 1); Diane A. (party of 3, tbl. 9); Linda M. (party of 2, tbl. 2); Idil Y. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Dr. J. P. (party of 2, tbl. 35); Chef’s wife, Elizabeth T., and her friend (party of 2, tbl. 6); the G.’s (party of 2, tbl. 63); Paul G. (party of 3, tbl. 3); Dr. J. S. (party of 2, tbl. 23); Judith S. (party of 5, tbl. 16); Kenneth G. (party of 2, tbl. 6); Alexander and Mrs. C., with their cousins (party of 4, tbl. 26); Dr. V. C., Chef G.’s chiropractor (party of 2, tbl. 64); Jason D., celebrating 36th anniversary (party of 5, tbl. 17); Maria C.’s, celebrating 36th anniversary (party of 2, tbl. 23); the K.’s (party of 2, drinks only at the bar — Mrs. K. enjoyed the former Queen’s favorite cocktail); Jackson P. (party of 10, tbl. 35+), celebrated a birthday and brought their own cake.

Maureen C. (pary of 2, tbl. 31, served by Anthony) dined at the ULC for the first time tonight. Ms. C. commented to C.: “This was our very first time here and the entire experience was absolutely fabulous. Dinner was DELICIOUS. We will be back soon!” Bravo to A., Chef G., Chef J., Chef T., C., R., G., and the entire team!

Ronald and Mrs. W. (party of 2, tbl. 18, served by R. I.) were on the last day of a summer vacation in Maine, and rather than drive the full distance back home, decided to spend the night in New Haven. Mr. W. is a Harvard graduate, class of 1964, and wanted to explore the old campus of Yale; Mrs. W. wanted to dine out at a great restaurant. After their dinner, the W.’s were on cloud 9, and Mrs. W. commented: “We LOVED it! Thank you for the perfect ending to our vacation.” Bravo to R. I., Chefs, team, and bravo to the W.’s as well, for having wisely joined us on the last full weekend of summer!

Paul G. (party of 3, tbl. 3, served by R.) told a long heartfelt story to R. after their dinner. The story was about bouillabaise, and how Mr. G.’s youngest son had once met Chef J.P.; it sounded like tonight, Mr. G.’s youngest son’s girlfriend was visiting New Haven for the first time and that they wanted her to experience fine dining at the ULC. Finally (I was holding the door open this whole time) Mr. G. thanked R. for a “truly wonderful time,” and said goodnight. Bravo to R., Chefs, R., and the entire team!

Sunday: mostly sunny; high of 85F. Monday: PM thunderstorms; high of 84F. Tuesday: partly sunny; high of 81F; 15% chance of precipitation.

Have a great last full weekend of summer 2022!
