ULC Logbook, Friday, December 9th, 2022:

For Friday lunch, we started with 38 covers. There were no cancellations. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 12:20PM; 2 at 1:15PM; 1 at 2:05PM. Friday lunch finished with 45 guests.

For lunch BA’s, we were joined by: Richard R, Yale Library (party of 3, tbl. 11); Stephen B, who gifted me a great book (party of 2, tbl. 6); Dewey C (party of 3, tbl. 17); Deidre M (party of 3, tbl. 3); Pierre S-A (party of 2, tbl. 9); Professor Timothy Snyder, author of the excellent book, “On Tyranny” (party of 2, tbl. 2); Susan R (party of 2, tbl. 4); Demetrios B (party of 7, tbl. 5).

For Friday dinner, we started with 101 covers (the total includes the parties in the Clubroom and the Sherman Room). One party cancelled, for a total loss of 4 covers. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 5:55PM (drinks and apps only, at the bar); 1 at 6:15PM (dinner at the bar); 6 at 7:05PM (appetizers and drinks only, in the Clubroom); 2 at 7:20PM (the Kiley’s); 2 at 8:20PM (dinner at the bar); 1 at 8:25PM (apps and drink only, at the bar); 2 at 9:05PM (desserts and drinks only, at the bar). We finished with 123 guests (the total includes the parties in the Clubroom and the Sherman Room).

For dinner, we had one takeout order, placed by web with the addition of a baguette arranged by old school telephone, for regular guests, Barbara and Mr. G.

For Friday dinner BA’s, we welcomed: Jimmy C (party of 4, tbl. 3); Diane S (party of 4, tbl. 16); Elizabeth P (party of 10, tbl. 5); the Rs (party of 3, tbl. 9); Grace B, married at ULC (party of 2, tbl. 2); Mengyan L (party of 2, tbl. 27); the Kiley’s (illegally parked on Chapel Street, drinks at the bar); Dwight E, celebrating his mother’s 70th (party of 4, tbl. 13); Erica R, celebrating her mother-in-law’s birthday at the ULC because an, “unnamed,” New Haven restaurant did not have a table for their reservation…. OK well, it was Zinc… (party of 6, tbl. 30); the S (party of 4, tbl. 10); Erin H (party of 5, tbl. 17).

In the Clubroom, we were joined by 13 guests from the Yale School of Architecture, for a RALC menu dinner, following their Fall 2022 Studio, “The Fragile Earth Institute at Biosphere 2.”

In the Sherman Room, we were joined by 12 guests from C and S Lawyers, for a RALC menu dinner, hosted by Mohan S.

There is a rip / tear in the green leather seat of the one of chairs currently at table 3.

After their lunch, Madame F (party of 3, tbl. 10, served by D) commented that Chef’s crayfish omelette was the single most delicious omelet she has ever had. The party also greatly enjoyed D pairing half-glasses of wine with their courses. When I asked Madame F’s dining companion how their experience had been, she replied: “Oh my God, it was so good.” Bravo to D, RT, CF, Chef G., Chef J., Chef W., Chef T., and the entire team!

After their dinner, Rommel A (party of 2, tbl. 18, served by J K) commented: “We really enjoyed our time here. It’s a special place.” Bravo to Mr. K, RT, CF, Chefs and team!

ULC Logbook, Friday, December 9th, 2022:

For Saturday lunch, we started with approx. 30 covers. No parties cancelled. We were joined by the following walk-in parties for lunch: 3 at 1:30PM; a solo diner at 1:45PM. For Saturday lunch, we finished with 36 guests.

Our BA’s for Saturday lunch were: Sheila B (party of 2, tbl. 4); Craig O’C (party of 4, tbl. 13); Anne G, friends / family of the Ps, who I took on a mini-tour of the second floor (party of 2, tbl. 23); Terrence F (party of 3, tbl. 3); Gloria S (party of 4, tbl. 9).

For Saturday dinner, we started with 127 covers. Seven parties cancelled, for a total loss of 17 covers. We welcomed the following walk-in parties: 2 at 5PM (drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 5:30PM; 6 at 5:30PM (2 adults, 4 kids, for dinner in the Clubroom); 2 at 5:40PM; 3 at 6PM (birthday drinks only, an annual tradition, in the Clubroom); 2 at 6:25PM; 1 at 6:30PM (dinner at the bar); 2 at 8:10PM (dinner at the bar); 4 at 8:40PM (drinks and apps only, at the bar). We finished with 143 guests.

Our BA’s for Saturday dinner were: The Ls, dinner before seeing, “A Soldier’s Play,” tonight at the Shubert (party of 2, tbl. 13); Daryl G (solo, tbl. 25); Gene Es (party of 5, tbl. 5); the Ps (party of 2, tbl. 4); Emily H (party of 9, tbl. 120); Rick S (party of 4, tbl. 115); Marc and Erica W, of ONTHEMARC Catering in Norwalk (party of 2, tbl. 117); Mary F (party of 5, tbl. 3); the Ts (party of 2, tbl. 14); Farukh M, from NYC (party of 2, tbl. 26); Christine C (party of 4, tbl. 16); Mary Ellen G and Linda V (party of 2, tbl. 1); Monica S J (party of 2, tbl. 27); Iris D (party of 2, tbl. 15); Melissa A, married at the ULC in 2009 (party of 2, tbl. 19); Garrett A, had their wedding dinner at the ULC in 2021 (party of 2, tbl. 18).

Carl P (party of 2, tbl. 4, served by J K) commented: “The mushroom soup that the Chef sent over was delicious and it was the perfect welcome because it warmed us up. Please send Chef our thanks and compliments.” Bravo to J K, RT, CF, Chef G, Chef J, Chef W, Chef T and the entire team!

Rick S (party of 4, tbl. 115, served by S) commented: “Upstairs was perfect.” Bravo to the team on the second floor for raising the roof, literally!

The Ts (party of 2 , tbl. 14, served by R) just returned from a trip to Paris, France, where they stayed for 4 days, and dined in Michelin rated restaurants. After their dinner, Mrs. T commented that her entree tonight was the best duck she’s ever had. Mr. T commented that although they had amazing dining experiences in Paris, he missed the warm hospitality of the team at the ULC. Bravo to R, Chefs, the Ts, and the entire team! England was no match for France, but maybe the ULC was!

ULC Logbook, Tuesday, December 12th, 2022:

We started with 64 covers (the total does not include the parties in the Clubroom, Ballroom, or Sherman Room). Three parties cancelled, for a total loss of 9 covers. Tonight was unusual in its lack of any walk-in business. We finished with 56 guests (the total does not include the parties in the Clubroom, Ballroom, or Sherman Room).

We had one takeout order, for Ava W, placed by web.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Brian S, celebrating 25th anniversary (party of 2, tbl. 4); Ronald K (party of 5, tbl. 16); Ravi D / Alexander F, YSOM (party of 3, tbl. 17); Emma and Mrs. W, celebrating Emma’s 20th birthday, half my age, NBD (party of 2, tbl. 13); Connecticut state senator Martin L (party of 6, tbl. 5); former ULC server, Samson S, celebrating his brother Eric’s birthday (party of 2, tbl. 2); Dawn B (party of 4, tbl. 10).

In the Clubroom, we were joined by approx. 30 guests from Organschi Gray Architects, hosted by A L-F.

In the Ballroom, we were joined by 50 guests from Yale Law School, hosted by A M.

In the Sherman Room, we welcomed 15 guests from Foundation Medicine, hosted by M P.

H G, Dean of Yale Law School, stopped at the front desk following the conclusion of the Ballroom party tonight. Dean G said Yale Law School has not held a large event at the ULC for almost 3 years, and that it was, “superb,” to be back. The Dean said that everything tonight, from drinks and food to hospitality, had been absolutely perfect. The Dean asked me to share her gratitude with all for doing such a great job, she departed offering a Chef’s kiss. Bravo to P M., J D, S, C, CF, RT, Chef G, Chef W, Chef J, Chef T, and the entire team!

Dr. R, Nobel prize winner, lover of Canadian-style winter hats, commented: “The event was just fantastic. Please pass along my thanks to your entire team for having us.” Bravo to the banquet squad!

It was the first day for A, the new dining room manager.
