We took our annual staff trip to Mexico, and the focus this year was on the Yucatan. Casa del Balam, which translates from Spanish to mean the house of the jaguar, was our home base in Merida. Evidently it used to house friars, which explains the beauty of the hotel’s stone and stained wood structure.
Beyond the AC lacking oomph (and with 110 heat index, its forgivable,) my biggest negative with the hotel was the bathroom fan being very quiet. It was not the level of white noise that would have made the hotel my sanctuary. That being said, the elegance of the hotel and proximity to Merida’s main square made the Jaguar house a good home away from home.
