A 50th Anniversary / A Rustic Appetite — April 15 – 16, 2022

ULC Logbook, Friday, April 15th, 2022:

We started with 59 covers. At 6:40PM, we were joined by 3 guests for desserts-only. At 6:45PM, the K.’s joined us at the bar. At 7PM, a reservation for 2 no-showed. At 7:10PM, we accepted a walk-in party of 2. Just after 7:30PM, an additional guest joined the K.’s at the bar for drinks. We were joined by a final party of 2 at 8PM who claimed they had made a reservation. We finished with 63 guests.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Robert X. Jr. (party of 2, tbl. 2); Victor G. and his wife, celebrated their 50th anniversary (party of 2, tbl. 4); Mark V., who celebrated 20 years in the U. S. (party of 2, tbl. 14); John G. and his mother (party of 2, tbl. 21); Brigitte G. (party of 2, tbl. 27); the T.’s (party of 7, tbl. 5); the K.’s (party of 2, at the bar).

In the Ballroom, we were joined by approx. 37 guests who celebrated the 21st birthday of Hanah J.

The G.’s (party of 2, tbl. 4, served by A.) were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, and were the first guests to join us, which allowed me to answer their “history of the restaurant” questions in detail. I gave them a copy of the historic ULC menu from Jan. 31, 1914, to take home. The G.’s daughter had arranged for a gift card to take care of their dinner. On their way out, Mr. G. offered his appreciation to the Chef. Mr. G. said to me: “Everything was delicious, but you already know that, don’t you?” I answered in the affirmative, and confided in Mr. G. how I myself have become dependent on Chef for all things delicious.

We have reached out for confirmation to all Easter weekend reservations.

Saturday: high of 63F, PM showers. Sunday: partly cloudy, cooler, high of 50F.

ULC Logbook, Saturday, April 16th, 2022:

We started with 129 confirmed covers. At 5PM, 3 walk-in guests joined us for drinks and an appetizer at the bar. Just after 7PM, a solo walk-in guest joined us at the bar for coffee and dessert. We had no cancellations: a party of 9 was reduced to 7 due to a case of appendicitis: the guest who was not able to join us is already recovering from surgery and is on the mend. We finished with 128 guests.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Peter N. (party of 4, tbl. 13); Lynn F. (party of 6, tbl. 3); David K. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Pericles L., Sheila H., their daughter (party of 3, tbl. 27); Gene W. (party of 2, tbl. 10); Robert B. (party of 7, tbl. 5); Jonathan B. (party of 4, tbl. 13); the P.’s (party of 2, tbl. 12).

After the W.’s had finished their dinner, Gene W. (party of 2, tbl. 10, served by J.-M. M.) commented to R. how much he had enjoyed his entree of Coq Au Vin. To paraphrase, Mr. W. said: “Speaking as someone with more of a rustic appetite, and a lover of slow-roasted / braised meats of all kinds, this was one of the most delicious ‘peasant dishes’ I have ever tasted.” Bravo Chef, JMM and team!

C. trained with C. in the busser station.

Sunday: mostly sunny, high of 50F.
