Memorial Day Weekend — May 27 – 31, 2022

ULC Logbook, Friday, May 27th, 2022:

We started with 59 covers, on this first day (traditionally considered a “travel day”) of the 2022 Memorial Day weekend. For cancellations, we lost a same-day party of 2, and a party of 3; these were compensated for by same-day reservations, and the 6 guests (including Mr. Alexander C.) who dined at the bar. We finished with 72 guests.

We had two orders for takeout: Thomas R., who was unable to correctly communicate his 14-digit gift card number over the phone, and ultimately did not pick up his order; and Mr. H., who ordered in person.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Stan Y., just graduated from Holy Cross (party of 3, tbl. 16); Bruce S. (party of 4, tbl. 26); Susan G. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Brigitte G. (party of 2, tbl. 27); Jack S., dining with (we assume) his girlfriend, and with father John S. (party of 3, tbl. 12); Alexander C. (party of 3, at the bar); Francine W., regulars since Robert Henry’s (party of 2, tbl. 6); Benoit M. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Richard C. (party of 3, tbl. 3).

Susan G. (party of 6, tbl. 5, served by J.-M. M.) sent their thanks to the Chef for making their daughter (a vegan who does not enjoy quinoa) so happy with her dinner. Ms. G. also commented that their server was, “absolutely fantastic.” Bravo Chef, J.-M., and team!

The forecast for Saturday shows a likely enough chance for scattered thunderstorms that we preemptively reached out to all Saturday patio reservations and communicated that we will have a table for their reservations inside the restaurant in case of rain.

ULC Logbook, Saturday, May 28th, 2022:

We started with 140 covers on this Memorial Day weekend Saturday. There were cancellations, due to Covid, of two parties of 4 guests: in both cases, we were able to re-reserve the table. There were multiple large parties celebrating graduations / milestone family events. During service, we added several same-day reservations for the last hour. We finished with 152 guests.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Kim C. (party of 6, tbl. 30); The N.’s (party of 2, tbl. 6); Kate M. (party of 12, tbl. 18+); The G.’s (party of 10, tbl. 14+); Robert O. (party of 4, tbl. 26); John H. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Peter C. (party of 7, tbl. 29); Bennett S. (party of 4, tbl. 17); Mark S. (party of 2, tbl. 11); Elizabeth H. (party of 3, tbl. 12); Justin Z. / John G. (party of 2, tbl. 21); Helen M., with Merwin’s Art Framing regular T. (party of 3, tbl. 23+); Chef’s friend Florence F. (party of 4, tbl. 16); David G. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Vincent F. (party of 2, tbl. 7); Cynthia O. (party of 4, tbl. 35); Vincent E. (party of 2, at the bar); Emily B. (party of 4, tbl. 12); J. P. H. (party of 3, tbl. 31).

Dr. B. S. (party of 4, tbl. 17, served by J.), who is a neurologist with the Yale School of Medicine, was dining with a female guest who was reported by others at the front desk to be at a low number — perhaps 2, or 3 — on the mood scale when the party arrived. After a couple hours of Chef’s cuisine, and ULC hospitality, the guest’s mood had risen to a 8 or 9. After dinner, this guest commented: “J. was the best waiter I’ve ever had here.” Bravo Chef, J., and team!

David G. (party of 2, tbl. 4, served by D.) and his wife said their dinner tonight was amazing and send their thanks to the Chef.

MVP G. for taking a section.
