Thanking Teachers with Gift Cards — June 2 – 3, 2022

ULC Logbook, Thursday, June 2nd, 2022:

We started with 72 covers (the total includes 20 guests from the Sherman Room, and 12 guests from the Clubroom). Perhaps due in part to the uncooperative elements (rain) we had 4 parties cancel (10 covers); a party of 6 guests dropped to 3 guests; a party of 6 dropped to 4 guests (a net negative 15 covers). We were joined by the following parties of walk-in guests: 2 at 6PM; 2 at 6:50PM (dinner at the bar); 4 at 7:45PM; 1 at 8:05PM; 2 at 8:20PM (dessert only). We finished with 69 guests.

We had one order for takeout, placed by web, for Barbara G.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Liza C. L. (party of 2, tbl. 17); Bryan C. (party of 4, tbl. 3); R. D. (party of 3, tbl. 16); Yale School of Medicine / Neurology, hosted by C. M. (party of 12, tbl. 33+).

In the Ballroom (originally contracted for patio) we were joined by 50 guests from the Hopkins School, “Farewell K. B..” In the Sherman Room, we were joined by 20 guests from Ernst and Young, hosted by Rhonda and Anita.

The husband-and-wife regulars for the Liza C. L. reservation (party of 2, tbl. 17, served by J.) had just returned from a trip to France. After dinner, Mrs. C. L. commented that their ULC dinner experience had matched the excellence of the Michelin-rated, Chef-driven restaurants they had enjoyed in Paris (the C. L.’s did tell me the names of some of these restaurants; but unfortunately I was too slow to write them down.) Bravo Chef, J. and team!

S. and E. served the Sherman Room guests — S. gave a shoutout to E., that she really stepped up and assisted with service. For this praise, in my book at least, E. is tonight’s MVP: bravo!

Friday: scattered showers; high of 76F. Saturday: mostly sunny; high of 80F.

ULC Logbook, Friday, June 3rd, 2022:

We started with 60 covers, on what turned out to be a more-beautiful-weather-than-was-forecasted first Friday of June. There were no cancellations; several same-day reservations. One party of 2, reserved for the patio, moved inside. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 5:35PM (regulars at the bar); 2 at 7:30PM; 2 at 8:30PM (patio). We finished with 80 guests.

There were two orders for takeout: for BA Berri N. at 6:55PM (placed by phone); for Mr. Q. at 7PM (placed by web).

For BA’s, we were joined by: Pamela B. (party of 2, tbl. 13); Richard W., celebrating 75th birthday (party of 2, tbl. 17); Kiran Z. (party of 5, tbl. 76); John K. (solo at bar); Roy F. (party of 2, tbl. 4); William F. (party of 2, tbl. 3); Dr. C. G. (party of 2, tbl. 61); Leticia H. (party of 9, tbl. 5).

In the Sherman Room, we were joined by 16 guests for Edianet and Gunter L.’s wedding dinner.

Kiran Z. (party of 5, tbl. 76, served by A.) was a same-day reservation for a family celebrating their son’s graduation. After their dinner, the Z.’s said they’d enjoyed such a lovely experience tonight on the patio, they wanted to share. To say thank you for having taught their son with so much attention and care through these challenging past few years, Mrs. Z. bought seven $100. gift cards, one for each of his teachers. Bravo Chef, A., team, and Z.’s!

Bravo to C.F. for doing a great job remodeling the sales office!

Saturday: sunny; high of 76F. For both Sunday and Monday: mostly sunny; high of 77F.
