Birth-aversary? / Danny-versary? / Jacket?! — September 23, 2022

ULC Logbook, Friday, September 23rd, 2022:

We started with 104 covers. The decision was made before service to close the patio due to the drop in temperature: all patio reserved guests joined us indoors. A single party cancelled, for a total loss of 3 covers. We welcomed the following (taking care not to exceed the limit for max covers) walk-in parties: 2 at 5:25PM (apps only, in the Clubroom); 1 at 5:40PM (apps only, at the bar); 1 at 7PM (apps only, in the Clubroom); 2 at 7:50PM. We finished with 106 guests (the total does not include the Ballroom party).

There was one order for takeout, (two apps, two entrees, two desserts,) for a first time guest, Aaron F., placed by phone.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Richard and Mrs. Y., dinner before the symphony (party of 2, tbl. 24); Robert and Mrs. R., celebrated 48th anniversary (party of 2, tbl. 2); Derek S. (party of 5, tbl. 30); Becca M. (party of 5, tbl. 17); Charalampos P., former brunch regulars (party of 4, tbl. 12); Jennifer H. (party of 5, tbl. 16); Jeff S. (party of 6, tbl. 22+); Danny L. (party of 4, tbl. 3); Andrew F., dining with John G. and Justin Z. (party of 4, tbl. 1); Kristine C. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Amanda B. (party of 7, tbl. 30); Dan R. (party of 6, tbl. 19+), with friends from Litchfield County, who greatly enjoyed G.’s recommendation for bin #307, Chateau Nenin, Pomerol, $309. (bravo G!); Nicholas C. (party of 7, tbl. 35).

In the Ballroom, we were joined by 58 guests for E. and A.’s rehearsal dinner, hosted by Sally H.

Danny L.’s party (4 guests, tbl. 3, served by D.) celebrated his birthday, as well as his 50-year anniversary on the radio. For dessert plate, in chocolate, L. requested a drawing (in chocolate!) of a radio with the words, “Happy birth-aversary D.!” be served with candle — to be fair, it’s questionable whether, “birth-aversary,” is really a word. It WAS a real request, however, the end result of which made Danny L. so happy that he sent an online shoutout / appreciation to Chef T. Bravo to D., Chef T., C., Chef G., Chef J., L. (for coining a new word), and the entire team!

J. D. (party of 2, tbl. 15, served by A.) registered a low number, maybe even 1, on the 1 to 10 mood scale when first arrived, however after A.’s warm hospitality, Helmstead Farm’s tomato salad, and Chef G.’s beef filet, Mr. D. was headed into the first weekend of autumn much improved, perhaps restored to an 8 or 9. In the foyer, Mr. D. even offered thanks to the Chef for a “delicious dinner.” Bravo to A., Chef G., and the entire team… “Jacket?!”

J. trained in the busser station. G., not one who is known to be frivolous with praise, commented: ‘She’s really good.”

Not only is it jacket season, today also marked the first day of the season for Beaujolais table tents.

Saturday: mostly sunny; high of 71F; 0% chance of rain. Sunday: scattered thunderstorms; high of 73F; 50% chance of rain.

“Jacket?!”
