ULC Logbook, Friday, October 7th, 2022:
We started with 117 covers (the total does not include the parties in the Ballroom or the Sherman Room). Many reservations changed their time and number of guests, due to travel and other complicating factors involved with Yale Family Weekend. One party of 3 cancelled, for a total loss of 3 covers. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 3 at 5:45PM (drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 6:20PM (drinks only, at the bar); 2 at 7:40PM; 2 at 8:50PM (drinks only, at the bar). We finished with 120 guests (the total does not include the parties in the Ballroom or the Sherman Room).
For BA’s, we were joined by: Sara C. (party of 7, tbl. 17); retired Yale Professor M. R. (party of 2, tbl. 4); Cheryl S. (party of 7, tbl. 30); Jennifer W. (party of 7, tbl. 5); the P.’s (party of 2, tbl. 26); Daryl G. (solo, tbl. 14); Sheila H. / Pericles L. (party of 2, tbl. 27); Andrew C. (party of 6, tbl. 17); Dr. J. R. (party of 2, tbl. 5).
In the Sherman Room, we were joined by 22 guests for a birthday party, hosted by David B.
In the Ballroom, we were joined by 45 guests for the rehearsal dinner of S. J. and A.
R., an extraordinaire on the ULC support team, and an even more accomplished artist, dined as a walk-in.
Adam G. (party of 4, tbl. 22, served by A.) was one of the parties with changes due to travel complications. After their dinner, Mr. G. complimented the entire FOH staff for being so gracious and accommodating, commented that everything they were served tonight had been delicious, and asked me to pass along a word of thanks to Chef and our team in the kitchen for doing a great job. Bravo to A., RT, CF, Chef G., Chef J., Chef T., all FOH and BOH, for these comments, and more generally, for getting Yale Family Weekend off to a successful start.
A., the future groom from the rehearsal dinner in the Ballroom, commented: “Absolutely superb.” The birthday celebrant with the B. party in the Sherman Room commented: “An absolute delight.” The same guest had preciously interviewed Chef JP, and said Chef G. has flawlessly taken the reins: everything exceeded expectation. Bravo to the banquet teams!
A note that when we have two parties on the second floor, the banquet servers need to always keep the wines for the two parties completely separate (the bottles themselves), in order to ensure each party gets properly charged at the end.
With new servers having recently joined the team, and as a refresher for all staff, in an upcoming pre-shift meeting, I would please request that we thank everybody for their continued diligence in returning menus back to the front desk after an order is taken, but please ask they do not return used menus directly onto the stack of clean menus, but rather to either side, so that we can double check that the menus are clean before they are used again.
