ULC Logbook, Saturday, October 8th, 2022:
We started with 214 covers. Even with the cancellation fee being communicated multiple ways to all reservations (and perhaps due less to any amount of communication, and due more to the logistical challenges of coordinating family gatherings) six parties cancelled, for a total loss of 26 guests. Fortunately, demand to join us at the ULC for Yale Family Weekend remained strong, as evidenced by the following walk-in parties: 4 at 5:35PM; 2 at 5:55PM; 2 at 6:20PM (dinner at bar); 4 at 7:35PM (drinks only, at the bar, friends of D. from LA); 1 at 7:40PM; 2 at 7:10PM (dinner at the bar); 2 at 8:35PM. We finished with 216 guests.
For BA’s, we were joined by: Bobby D’A. (party of 5, tbl. 112); David P. (party of 2, tbl. 1); Martha S. (party of 3, tbl. 37); Joe V. (party of 6, tbl. 5); Kenneth G. (party of 2, tbl. 6); Jennifer C. (party of 4, tbl. 110); Bryan R. (party of 6, tbl. 3); Brooke P. (party of 5, tbl. 17); Kristine D. (party of 7, tbl. 30); Jay C. (party of 5, tbl. 108); Julie Von S. (party of 6, tbl. 16); Catherine L. (party of 5, tbl. 118); Paul R. (party of 5, tbl. 34+); John F. (party of 3, tbl. 1); Paul N. (party of 6, tbl. 29); Edgar S. (party of 2, tbl. 2); Christine Y., married at the ULC, so happy to be dining in the Ballroom because that’s where they got married (party of 4, tbl. 111); Marc B. (party of 5, tbl. 5).
Joe V. (party of 6, tbl. 5, served by N.) commented: “Phenomenal!”
Denis M. (party of 2, tbl. 11, served by R.) commented: “We had a GREAT time!”
Marcy K. (party of 4, with one vegan, tbl. 11, second turn, also served by R.) commented: “We can’t wait to come back!” The party’s omnivorous, “vegan guest,” commented: “That was the best beet salad I have ever had.”
Jared K. (party of 2, with one pescatarian, tbl. 13, second turn, served by N.) commented: “The Chaud-Froid was the best chocolate dessert I have ever tasted!”
Bravo to R., N., A., A., P. M., D., S., S., R. I., J. D., J., RT, CF, Chef G., Chef J., Chef T., and all involved in making memorable dining experiences for our guests throughout this Yale Family Weekend!
D. was reminded that it’s not OK to accept a table’s invitation to join them giving cheers with alcohol.
CF observed staff communicating to guests the way to the washroom by pointing with one finger. For future staff meetings, staff should be reminded when gesturing to indicate direction, to always use an open hand.
Per CF (and I agree), when we are seating for regular dinner service on two floors, coats have to be taken on the first floor, to ensure the guest experience (often difficult to find staff to retrieve coats when they are checked on the second floor coat room, where there is no attendant).
Per CF, when seating parties on the second floor, we need to communicate where the 2F washrooms are located, so that 2F guests do not think there are only facilities on the 1F.
Sunday: sunny; high of 64F. Monday: partly cloudy; high of 67F. Tuesday: partly sunny; high of 67F. With Yale family or not, have a great weekend!
