ULC Logbook, Wednesday, October 12th, 2022:
We started with 64 covers, including five parties of 6. Several parties added and subtracted from their reserved number of guests: there were no cancellations. We were joined by the following walk-in parties: 2 at 5PM (drinks and apps only, in the Clubroom); a solo dinner guest at 5:10PM; 2 at 5:25PM (drinks only, in the Clubroom). At around 6PM, two gentlemen made an in-person reservation for 8 guests at 8PM, who ended up a party of 5. We finished with 80 guests.
There was one order for takeout, placed by web, for Yale’s honorable Professor B. — I inquired if Mr. B. was excited to try our new, “Paris Brest,” dessert, and Mr. B. replied that, “Paris Brest,” is actually a well-established classic dessert of the ULC, and that he was so happy that it’s back! Respect.
For BA’s, we were joined by: Sheward H. (party of 2, tbl. 6); Dr. A. L., of Yale Medicine (party of 6, tbl. 5); Anthony K., retired Dean of Yale Law (party of 2, tbl. 4); Dr. M. P., Yale medicine, celebrated wife K.’s birthday (party of 2, tbl. 2); Zoe C. (party of 6, tbl. 17); YSOM Professor R. D., who dined with BA Alexander F. (party of 4, tbl. 12); Kerry R., celebrated retirement of Tom L. (party of 6, tbl. 16); LaTatia C.-R., ULC has been his favorite restaurant in New Haven for 15 years, brought his colleagues in for their first time (party of 5, tbl. 3); Riccardo A. (party of 2, tbl. 37) was happy the table selection matched his request for social distance; Kay L. (party of 2, tbl. 10); Donald D., fan of seared foie gras (party of 3, tbl. 24-25); Nadad G., fan of escargots and building history (party of 5, tbl. 18+); Yale Divinity School Dean G. S. (party of 7, tbl. 30).
Tonight J. took his first steps out of training and onto the floor, and was assigned a small section in what has been (affectionately?) referred to as the, “fishbowl.” Dr. C. L. (party of 3, tbl. 26) was the very first party that J. served, and tonight also happened to be Dr. L.’s first time back at the ULC since he had been enrolled in Yale’s School of Medicine many years ago. Dr. L. arrived excited to dine with us, accompanied by his wife and kid. After their dinner, I checked in again with Dr. L. regarding their experience tonight, and he commented: “It was amazing! We can’t wait to come back!” Bravo to J., RT, CF, Chef G., Chef J., Chef T., and the entire team!
