“Do Not Forget the Turkey” — November 24, 2021

ULC Logbook, Wednesday, November 24th, 2021:

We started with approx. 106 covers. The number had dipped to approx. 100 covers before we opened. We were joined by only a couple tables of walk-in’s, however, there were zero no-show’s / cancellations after the start of service. We finished with 108 covers.

H. P.-L. (party of 4, tbl. 31) reserved for the Chef’s tasting menu experience on OpenTable, however ordered a la carte. This was the first instance where I have seen this occur: all other parties who have reserved for Chef’s tasting menu have followed through in the restaurant. The P. L. party of 4 consisted of 2 adults and 2 children.

For BA’s, we were joined by: Kholoud E. (party of 3, tbl. 29); Dr. Stephen and Valeria P. (party of 4, tbl. 19); Benedict C. (party of 2, tbl. 22); Brian K. (party of 4, tbl. 10); Robert B. (party of 8, tbl. 5); Chef G.’s friends from France (party of 2, tbl. 14); A., S., and S.’s colleague from his other job (party of 3, at the bar).

Speaking on behalf of just one of the 23 orders for Chef’s at-home Thanksgiving dinner, thank you Chef G., C., R., G., Chefs J. and J., Chefs T. and W., and everyone who had a hand in the planning and execution. The menu looks (and the upstairs walk-in smells!) fantastic, and there was an efficient and well-run system for guests picking up their orders: bravo! All guests I interacted with expressed their excitement and appreciation for this offering. Raven and Aunt Judy have certainly expressed their excitement for this offering. In fact, Raven felt the need to call me at the front desk tonight reminding me not to forget to bring home the turkey. Raven requested for me to write myself a note, highlight the note, and tape it down in front of me. Then my Aunt Judy had something to say, so Raven passed the phone to her. I was thinking Aunt Judy probably just wants to say she loves me, or that I’m her favorite nephew. Aunt Judy said: “Do not forget the turkey.”

M. joined the team for a trial shift and IMO was both helpful and focused throughout.

While sunny and dry, the temperature has dropped further. It was the first service where the extra heating unit (behind the banquette in the Club Room) was used.
